A bohemian destination Wedding Photography in Umbria, Italy – Mat + Irene

26th January 2020

The wedding was going to be “where the weather is always nice and the best food is”, said my bride, when she first enquired about photography for her destination wedding in Italy.

These have always been some of my favorites to photograph, because it always feels like I’m coming back “home”, even though I never really lived in Italy. I’ll explain why. In case you didn’t know, I’m actually half-italian. My mother’s family is italian and so I grew up just as passionate, as loud + as hungry as an italian girl!

When I first met with Mat and Irene to chat about the wedding, they immediately invited me to stay at their family home in Umbria when I would come over to shoot their wedding. Inviting a total stranger into your home with a family you never met?… SURE! WHY NOT? And this is exactly the type of thing me or my family would do too.

I arrived 2 days before the wedding in their beautiful home in the country side of Umbria, I then proceeded to be stuffed with the most delicious food cooked by Irene’s wonderful mother, with ingredients grown in their own garden and wine made by her dad. I got to know each aunt and cousin and closest friend, and I was treated like family.

It was my first time in Umbria, and I can’t wait to photograph a wedding there again! It’s the perfect place for a destination wedding – it is known for being the wine region of Italy, and this destination wedding to place in an authentic Italian vineyard.

I’m always travelling to Italy to photograph destination weddings, and would LOVE to head back to Umbria. If you’re looking for a destination wedding photographer in Umbria, get in touch!
